Are you a Christian?

If you are in Christ you should not be labeled anything other than Godly.  Think about your life and see if any of these terms characterize you (all taken from 1 Timothy 1 and 1 Corinthians 6):

  1. Lawless
  2. Disobedient
  3. Ungodly
  4. Unholy (wicked or outrageous)
  5. Profane (vulgar or coarse–lack of reverence for what is holy)
  6. Those who hit their father and mother
  7. Murderer
  8. Sexually immoral (anything less than pure)
  9. Those who practice homosexuality
  10. Enslaver
  11. Liar
  12. Drunkard
  13. Idolator (worships something/someone other than God)
  14. Adulter (sexually active/pursuing one other than spouse)
  15. Thief
  16. Greedy
  17. Swindler (One who cheats people)
  18. Reviler (One who uses abusive language to others)
  19. Any other UNHEALTHY act

Would anyone correctly call you these things?  Not who you used to be, but who you are now?  If so, you must repent.  If you call yourself a Christian, stop and fall to your face and repent.  You don’t need penance, you don’t have to pay for what you did wrong, just repent and confess your sin before the Lord.  If God prompts you to make amends, then do it.  If you can’t repent then you have no place with God’s people because you are under the law and therefore under God’s judgment.  For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?  For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Hebrews 10:26-32).

What we do in life is a choice.  We can stop sinning.  However, if we do sin, it should be out of character for us.  The good news is we have an advocate to the Father God who is Jesus.  Jesus will vouch for us if we repent and God will remember the all sufficient sacrifice he made to cover that sin.  If we can’t stop sinning then we are either possessed or oppressed by demons and should go to a Godly person and have them cast the demon out, or we have not truly submitted to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  This could be true all together or it could be that we need to be confronted about a particular sin that maybe we are blind to or that we have hidden.

For those who believe that all of this is foolishness, or wrong, your response has been predicted.  It is only those who can see the truth that know why it is so.  Scripture says:

For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written,“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” (1 Corinthians  1:18-25)
