Deuteronomy 3:23-26….Moses wrote:
“And I pleaded with the Lord at that time, saying, 24 ‘O Lord God, you have only begun to show your servant your greatness and your mighty hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty acts as yours? 25 Please let me go over and see the good land beyond the Jordan, that good hill country and Lebanon.’ 26 But the Lord was angry with me because of you and would not listen to me. And the Lord said to me, ‘Enough from you; do not speak to me of this matter again.”
Flattery and a good life gets you nowhere with God. We should remember today that the Lord does not show partiality to even his greatest servants. He requires the same holiness and obedience regardless of how much zeal and love you have displayed towards him. We do not acquire credit with which we can persuade God. Therefore, we are all equal in the sight of God and that no matter how much better of a Christian we think we are than someone else, ONE SIN puts us on the same plane as the most vile sinner. God will forgive each one who repents, but no one is exempt from God’s righteous judgment–a good life does not replace the effects of sin. We should be thankful each day for the opportunity to live one more time and not think of ourselves more highly than we ought to.
Moses was the most humble man on the earth (Numbers 12:3), but God still required the same from him as every other person. Be sure to encourage someone today who feels that they are not good enough for God!
