In counseling, I use a number of different modalities (CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Positive Psychotherapy, & more) to treat a wide range of mental health issues. Some problems I address include depression, anxiety (including OCD & other anxiety related disorders), self-harm, personality disorders, anger, addiction, eating disorders, adjustment disorders, mood disorders, marital discord, conflict resolution, and concerns about spirituality and Biblical application to life problems.
First and foremost, outside of my full time work as a Mental Health Therapist at Oregon Tech College, I seek to offer Biblical Counseling to individuals, couples, and families who identify as Christians. My greatest desire is to see people come to a comprehensive understanding of what God’s Word says about how they are to live as Christlike individuals and members of a family. Often times this includes learning skills taken from the field of psychotherapy that are not found in the Bible, but it always includes filtering every application of therapeutic intervention through Biblical instruction.
However, I also meet with those who are non-religious and offer therapeutic intervention using evidence based practices such as CBT, DBT, etc. in order to assist all my clients in gaining a better quality of life. Even if a person does not share my faith, I still believe that every human beings’ immediate emotional and physical needs deserve to met. While I believe that our greatest relief and healing is found in Jesus Christ and using Biblical principles, I also recognize that Jesus had compassion on all people whether or not they believed in Him. This is why I engage in counseling with those who are totally non-religious and meet them where they are at–because Jesus had compassion on all people, simply because they were human beings.
